A feminist has criticised OPay and the Nigeria Police Force over the arrest of 27-year-old Hafsat Abubakar in connection with a viral fake notice alleging that the fintech company was shutting down.
The feminist, who is known on X as @AbujaxQueen, expressed concern over what she described as the alleged intimidation of Abubakar following the circulation of the social media post.
Her reaction came after reports that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) arrested Abubakar following an investigation into the fabricated notice about OPay’s purported shutdown.
Speaking on the development, @AbujaxQueen questioned why the woman was still being detained after reportedly taking down the post and apologising to OPay.
She wrote on X:
“I will NOT stand by and watch this girl @haifah_er_abba get bullied by the police and OPay.
“She deleted the post and apologized. Why is she still being arrested?”
The feminist further revealed that she had directed her legal team to investigate the circumstances surrounding Abubakar’s arrest.
According to her, the lawyers would assess the situation and determine whether the 27-year-old’s rights had been violated.
She stated:
“I’m instructing my team of lawyers to look into this matter. If her rights are being violated, we will speak up. 🛡️”
She also stressed the need for women to receive fair treatment, adding:
“Women deserve justice, not intimidation.”
