Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has challenged two newly recognized traditional rulers to serve as impartial fathers to all people in their communities, saying peace is essential for grassroots development.
Soludo presented certificates of recognition to Igwe John Nzekwesili Nweke of Nsugbe and Igwe Ethelbirth Muoka of Adazi-Nnukwu.
He told them that opposition to their authority would come, as it always does with leadership, but their job is to keep their domains peaceful and united.
The governor said the state is working on a new law to organize how communities are run.
Right now, communities are managed by voluntary groups registered with the corporate affairs commission.
This system has created rival groups and endless court battles over who leads.
Soludo said a more structured approach would prevent these problems.
He urged experienced traditional rulers to mentor the new ones as Anambra works to build a stronger society from the grassroots up, one that could earn global recognition.
The commissioner for local government confirmed that the two rulers went through proper legal processes to get their positions.
They were the first to be recognized in the governor’s second term, following 12 others approved during his first term.
All went through the communities, then local government, before receiving final state approval.
The new traditional rulers promised to bring harmony and peace to their communities.
