The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that registration of support group is free, warning state chairmen of the party against extortion.
National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director in a statement on Friday, said it has come to the attention of the party’s leadership that some state chairmen were demanding registration fees from support groups.
“It has come to the attention of the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that some state chairmen are demanding registration fees from support groups.
“The party wishes to state categorically as follows: the registration of support groups is free. It does not attract any fee whatsoever.
“The registration of support groups is the exclusive prerogative of the Directorate of Support Groups. Therefore, all inquiries and registration must be directed to the Directorate of Support Groups at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.
“No State Chapter, officer, or official of the party is authorized to register support groups or collect money for that purpose under any guise.
“All State Chapters of the party are hereby directed to be properly guided and to comply strictly with this directive,” the statement read in parts.
The NDC national leadership said any violation of the directive will attract appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the constitution of the party.
The party added that it cherished the support and partnership of all support groups, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, and will continue to create an enabling environment for them to work for the victory of the party at all levels.
