The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to restore the petrol subsidy and introduce a minimum wage of N500,000 per month for Nigerian workers if elected in 2027.
Sowore made the promises in a post shared on his official X handle on Monday.
He said attempts to challenge his proposed N500,000 monthly living wage with economic statistics would not change his position.
“Attempts to water down our proposal for a N500,000 monthly living wage with funny statistics will not change our position,” Sowore wrote.

He added: “Under our government, Nigerian workers will earn a minimum wage of at least N500,000 monthly. We will also restore the petrol subsidy.
“Workers deserve wages they can actually live on.”
The pledge comes amid continued debate over the future of petrol subsidy policy, following its removal by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
Other presidential candidates have also expressed positions on the issue. African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has proposed restoring a form of subsidy targeted at domestic refiners.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, have said they would not return to the former subsidy regime if elected.
Makinde has instead proposed cheaper domestic crude pricing for Nigerian refineries.
