2027: Ondo APC sets one million vote goal for Tinubu

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, with party leaders calling for grassroots mobilisation across the state.

Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami announced the target on Saturday during the inauguration of the state presidential election campaign council, directorates and sub-committees at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure.

He said the goal would depend on party members reaching households and communities through door-to-door and street-to-street campaigns.

Adelami tasks members on grassroots campaigns

Adelami called on women, men, youths, elders and other groups to take part in the mobilisation exercise.

He praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing the President as a visionary leader who had fulfilled his promises. He also expressed confidence that the President would support the campaign financially.

Adelami said “the President would provide the necessary resources for the campaign” and asked APC members to return to their constituencies to mobilise voters.

State APC Chairman Kolawole Babatunde also expressed confidence that the party would achieve its one million vote target, citing its performance at state and national levels.

He asked campaign committees to reach every part of Ondo, engage residents and persuade voters to support the party.

Babatunde cited the state government’s infrastructure record, saying the Aiyedatiwa administration had completed more than 50 road projects, with over 50 others ongoing. He referred to figures presented by the Commissioner for Infrastructure during the commissioning of the Akure flyover.

Aiyedatiwa calls for party unity

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who inaugurated the campaign council, said unity would be necessary for the APC to secure victory in 2027.

He recalled that an alliance of political parties helped the APC defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general election.

“The APC’s formation in 2014 involved the alliance of New PDP, Action Congress of Nigeria, Action Congress of Democrats and other legacy parties which enabled the progressives to defeat the PDP in 2015,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa asked party members to learn from divisions within the PDP, which produced factions. He said the APC’s size as Nigeria’s and Africa’s largest political party would not guarantee victory without internal cooperation.

The governor said the 2027 elections would cover the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, governorships in some states and state Houses of Assembly.

He also said retaining power would allow party members and their communities to benefit from the party’s administration.

“It’s only when we retain power, that is when your own individual interests and your community interests can be met. All of us must work together,” he said.

Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker Olamide Oladiji also called on APC leaders to work for Tinubu’s re-election.

He said Ondo was known for winning elections and should maintain that record. He asked party leaders and residents to return to their areas to work towards a convincing victory.

Oladiji said Aiyedatiwa had indicated his readiness to support the campaign and expressed confidence that Ondo would deliver for Tinubu in 2027.
