22-year-old British man released on bail in RAF Fairford investigation

A 22-year-old British man arrested in connection with the investigation into suspected activity near RAF Fairford has been released on bail, British police said on Thursday.

The man was arrested in the Westminster area of London on October 6 on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

His release comes as Counter Terrorism Policing continues to investigate events surrounding the Gloucestershire airbase, which has been used by the United States for military bomber operations.

UK police arrest 25-Year-Old British-Iranian national in RAF Fairford investigation

SEVENTH ARREST IN INVESTIGATION

The 22-year-old was the seventh person arrested in connection with the investigation.

Five British men in their 20s were initially arrested near RAF Fairford on September 27 after police responded to reports of suspicious vehicles close to the military base.

A 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national was subsequently arrested in Westminster on October 1. All six men arrested before the latest suspect had been released on police bail.

Police have not charged any of the suspects in connection with the RAF Fairford investigation.

POLICE CONTINUE TO EXAMINE POSSIBLE MOTIVES

Counter Terrorism Policing has said the investigation remains active and that detectives are examining several possible explanations for what happened near the airbase.

Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing Vicki Evans said investigators were continuing to pursue “multiple lines of enquiry” into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We remain committed to investigating all possible angles,” Evans said.

Police have previously said they were investigating possible foreign-state involvement but have not publicly established who, if anyone, was behind the suspected plot.

RAF FAIRFORD REMAINS UNDER SCRUTINY

The investigation has attracted international attention because RAF Fairford had hosted US B-1 and B-52 bombers during the conflict involving Iran.

The United States subsequently moved its bombers from the Gloucestershire base. US President Donald Trump said the aircraft had been moved because of a threat, although authorities have not publicly provided detailed information about the nature of that threat.

However, Iran has denied involvement in the suspected plot.

The latest release means that all seven people arrested so far in connection with the RAF Fairford investigation have now been released on bail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no one has been convicted or charged in connection with the suspected plot.
