“How Do You Expect Me To Make Profit?”- Edo Dry Cleaner Cries Out Over Rising Fuel Costs

- An Edo-based dry cleaner is facing challenges due to rising fuel costs.
- The increasing expenses are affecting his ability to generate profits.
- He recently spent ₦10,000 on fuel specifically for ironing clothes.
An Edo-based dry cleaner has expressed frustration over the rising cost of fuel and its impact on his business, lamenting that the increasing expenses are making it difficult to generate profits.
In a statement highlighting his struggles, the dry cleaner disclosed that he had just spent ₦10,000 on fuel needed to iron his customers’ clothes, despite having already purchased fuel for washing them.
He questioned how small business owners were expected to make profits when they had to spend so much on basic operations, noting that the rising cost of fuel was putting additional pressure on his business.
“Look at the ₦10,000 worth of fuel I just bought to iron my customers’ clothes. How do you expect me to make a profit from this dry-cleaning business? I already bought fuel to wash the clothes, and now I have to buy more to iron them,” he lamented.
The businessman also expressed disappointment with the economic situation under President Bola Tinubu, saying he had hoped the government would make life easier for Nigerians, particularly during the election period.
“I thought the government would at least make things easier for citizens during the election period, but under President Tinubu’s government, things are getting worse,” he stated.
He further questioned the situation in Edo State, where Governor Monday Okpebholo has reportedly promised to deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu, despite the economic difficulties he says ordinary business owners are facing.
The dry cleaner’s complaint has drawn attention to the challenges confronting small-scale businesses that rely heavily on fuel to provide their services. For operators in the laundry and dry-cleaning sector, higher operating costs can make it increasingly difficult to maintain affordable prices while remaining profitable.
