A man has reportedly been arrested after allegedly stealing a Toyota Tundra from a car dealership in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, during a test drive and crashing into several vehicles and pedestrians while attempting to escape.
According to accounts circulating on social media, the suspect posed as a prospective buyer and collected the vehicle’s keys under the pretence of taking it for a test drive on Monday, October 12, 2026, before allegedly driving off.
An account shared by an X user, @abefe_survival, claimed that the suspect damaged security equipment while attempting to leave VGC and also struck a security guard.
He reportedly continued towards the Chevron area, where he allegedly crashed into several vehicles and hit pedestrians, including dispatch riders, as he tried to evade arrest.
The suspect was eventually apprehended around Ajiran, according to the circulating reports. Videos shared online reportedly showed an angry crowd surrounding and assaulting him before he was handed over to the authorities.
An update on social media further claimed that the incident damaged 39 vehicles across three locations: VGC, Chevron and the route from the tollgate to Ajiran.
The reported breakdown, however, lists 10 vehicles damaged in VGC, 11 around Chevron and 20 between the tollgate and Ajiran, figures that add up to 41 rather than 39.
Some reports also claimed that four dispatch riders died during the incident. However, as of the latest reports reviewed, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the reported deaths or the full circumstances of the incident.
