Nollywood actor Emeka Okoye has reacted to the death of his colleague and friend, Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay, expressing deep sadness over the circumstances surrounding his passing.
Okoye, in an emotional tribute shared on Instagram on Wednesday, September 30, described Cjay’s death as painful and unexpected.
He noted that the actor died at a time when his career appeared to be gaining momentum, making the loss particularly difficult for those who knew him.
However, beyond mourning his colleague, Okoye questioned the state of Nigeria’s healthcare system, alleging that a lack of oxygen at the hospital contributed to Cjay’s death.
He wrote:
“so sorry that the our health system failed us again? How can there not be enough oxygen in hospitals in this present year 2026.”
The actor’s comment also brought back memories of his own experience at a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds. Okoye recalled spending a night bleeding on the floor because there was no available bed, adding that he survived through prayer and what he described as divine protection.
While remembering Cjay, Okoye highlighted some of the qualities that made him special beyond his career as an actor.
He revealed that Cjay was also a skilled baker who used his talent to help and support others, describing his generosity as a lesser-known part of his personality.
Okoye further spoke about the bond they shared, saying Cjay showed him genuine love and loyalty even before they discovered that they were from the same town.
He also appreciated the producers who gave the late actor opportunities to showcase his talent and prayed for them.
Speaking about Cjay’s impact on those around him, Okoye wrote:
“everyone is testifying Good of how you touch their lives, am sure a lot of people don’t know you are a fantastic baker, even as a baker, you used it judiciously in philantropism, without blinking an eye.”
The actor also remembered the fun moments he shared with Cjay, reflecting on the memories they created together.
Despite his grief, Okoye acknowledged the efforts of colleagues and others who tried to save Cjay’s life, appreciating everyone who made sacrifices during the actor’s final hours.
He concluded his tribute by offering words of comfort to Cjay’s family, friends and fans around the world.
“Rest in the bosom of your creator. Good night Ceejay. A bright star is gone.”
