Tinubu Set to Unveil Five New Helicopters for Nigerian Air Force

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to officially induct five new helicopters into the Nigerian Air Force as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the military and strengthen Nigeria’s response to security threats.

The aircraft comprise two Airbus H125 helicopters and three Leonardo AW109 Trekker helicopters, designated AW109 Trekker B.

The acquisition is expected to enhance the Air Force’s operational capabilities, particularly in surveillance, reconnaissance, transport and other missions supporting security operations across the country.

The addition of the helicopters forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen the military’s aviation fleet and improve its capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.

Nigeria continues to face multiple security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, placing sustained pressure on the armed forces to improve their equipment, mobility and operational readiness.

The induction of the five helicopters is expected to provide additional aviation assets for military operations, although their overall impact will depend on deployment, maintenance, crew training and coordination with other security agencies.

Further official details on the induction ceremony and the helicopters’ operational deployment are awaited.
