Two die, others injured as Suzuki bus collides with pickup van in Lagos

Two people have died, while a man and a woman sustained serious injuries after a Suzuki commercial bus collided with a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, confirmed the crash, which involved a Suzuki bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van.
LASTMA operatives responded to the incident, coordinating rescue efforts, securing the scene and ensuring the safe evacuation of the victims.
During the operation, the two deceased victims were evacuated and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, popularly known as SHEMU.
The two injured survivors were taken to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention and further treatment.
Following the rescue operation, LASTMA officials handed over the vehicles involved in the crash and the Suzuki bus driver to security personnel from the Yaba Police Division.
The police officers provided security at the scene and maintained order until the rescue and recovery operations were completed.
The authority said its response reflected its commitment to prompt emergency services, effective traffic management, cooperation with other agencies and the protection of lives on Lagos roads.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the loss of lives as deeply distressing.
He also sympathised with the bereaved families and their loved ones, while wishing the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.
Bakare-Oki stressed the need for motorists to remain alert, obey traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits to prevent road crashes.
“Responsible driving, sustained concentration and the judicious exercise of caution remain indispensable to the prevention of avoidable road traffic collisions and their devastating consequences,” Bakare-Oki warned.
LASTMA urged motorists to maintain safe distances between vehicles, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy before using the roads.
The authority also called on all road users to make safety a priority and show respect for human life while travelling across Lagos State.
