Senior Fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, has alleged bias on the part of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan.
Speaking during an interview on a television programme, Ibrahim claimed that despite the chairmanâs relatively recent appointment, there have already been signs suggesting partisanship.
He argued that actions taken by the electoral body appear to target a major opposition party without clear legal justification, raising concerns about neutrality.
Ibrahim, who also serves as chairman of the Premium Times Editorial Board, said such developments could have implications for public trust in the electoral process.
âThis indicates we have a partisan person, who has come to do the job of his master. He had partisan opinions in the last election and showed that partisanship openly on X.
âI think the chairman of INEC is relatively new. Heâs just been appointed, but in a very short time, weâve seen numerous evidence of partisanship.
âHis intervention in terms of targeting the main opposition party without a legal basis that most senior lawyers find acceptable in this country justifies that,â he said.
