Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 general election after 345,375 party members across the state’s wards affirmed his candidacy during the party’s direct primary election.
Oborevwori, who was the sole aspirant, commended the exercise and declared that the APC remained united ahead of the polls.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Engr. Victor Abba, announced the result at the party secretariat in Asaba, the collation centre.
He declared: “I, Engineer Sir Victor Abba, hereby certify that the aspirant, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, scored 345,375 votes.”
Abba said Oborevwori, having satisfied the party’s constitutional requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes, was duly returned elected as APC governorship candidate for Delta State.
He commended party members for their unity, maturity and peaceful conduct during the exercise, describing Delta’s political atmosphere as stable and exemplary.
Speaking after voting in his ward in Okpe Local Government Area, Oborevwori praised the APC leadership for conducting what he described as a transparent and peaceful primary election.
He said the large turnout across the state’s 270 wards reflected strong grassroots participation and confidence in his leadership.
“For the first time in Delta State, our primaries were conducted peacefully without violence or crisis. Nobody imposed candidates on the people. The people freely chose those they wanted,” he said.
Former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa said the turnout reflected support for Oborevwori’s administration, while other party leaders commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of 2027.
