The Academic Staff Union of Universities branch at Plateau State University has expressed concern over the alleged non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU, warning that the situation could affect industrial harmony in universities.
Speaking to journalists in Jos, the branch chairperson, Comrade Choji Vincent, said the concerns followed resolutions reached at ASUU’s National Executive Council meeting held at Modibbo Adama University on May 9 and 10, 2026. Vincent said the union was worried about delays in inaugurating the Implementation Monitoring Committee expected to oversee execution of the agreement.
According to him, the delay has created inconsistencies in implementation across universities, particularly regarding salary-related allowances and welfare provisions. He said some institutions had partially implemented components of the agreement, while others were yet to begin due to funding challenges.
The union also raised concerns over unpaid entitlements, promotion arrears, pension issues, salary shortfalls linked to the IPPIS platform, and delays in remitting third-party deductions.
ASUU further criticised the Federal Government’s establishment of the National Research and Innovation Development Fund, saying aspects of the initiative differed from earlier agreements reached with the union. The union called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and address the issues affecting the university system.
