Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has commenced distribution of unquantified cows and rams, worth large but unspecified sums of money, by his administration to MDAs, organisations and local governments for 2026 Eid al-Kabir, for slaughter as an obligatory duty on Muslim faithful.
Flagging off the distribution in Bauchi over the weekend, Governor Bala described the event as a historical tradition that dates back to the inception of his administration in the state.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, said, “This is an established tradition that has gone on since the inception of the administration of His Excellency Senator Bala Mohammed. We have done this year-in, year-out in tandem with the tradition of Prophet Abraham”.
Aminu Hammayo, who is Chairman of this year’s Sallah Gifts Distribution Committee added that “I think it’s important for us not just to appreciate this gesture of His Excellency, but also to understand that Eidel Kabir calls for sacrifice, sacrifice drawn from the teachings and practice of Prophet Abraham (AS) where he made an attempt to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah, Subhanahu-Wata’ala”.
Aminu Hammayo explained that it is the tradition of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to provide support to different strata or segments of the society in which he lives.
“This year, 2026, the exercise is meant as usual to distribute animals to our leaders, political and traditional, youths, women, vulnerable, and every segment of our society”, Aminu said.
He said that what makes this year so significant is that Governor Bala Mohammed has directed that Bauchi should give special attention to people engaged in animal rearing and trade to prevent the intrusion of unlicensed animal sellers.
Hamayyo commended the committee for the mass purchase of the animals for their quality, saying, “The flagoff would simultaneously take across every nook and cranny of the state, in Azare, Toro, Futuk, and every other place in the state”.
Speaking earlier, the state commissioner of Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, Hon. Amina Mohammed Katagum, said the gesture was to enable Governor Bala Mohammed to ensure that citizens comfortably celebrate the festival.
Hon. Amina Katagum thanked the Governor for the kind gesture to the people.
Amina, who also oversees the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, disclosed that the committee has the animal gift, which will be distributed to the state’s 20 Local Government Areas. She explained that Eid al-Kabir is a time for reflection, gratitude, and compassion towards others, and that the celebration is a reminder of the importance of sacrifice, which calls for extending a helping hand to those in need.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to our visionary leader, His Excellency, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare and happiness of the people of our State”.
