President of the Republic of Benin, H.E. Romuald Wadagni, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening regional integration and enhancing its leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Wadagni made the commitment during a meeting with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, at the Presidential Palace (Palais de la Marina) in Cotonou, ECOWAS said in a statement on Thursday.
The audience came a day after the official inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Beninese President, held on May 24, 2026, and formed part of his first official engagements as Head of State.
Discussions during the meeting centred on regional stability, economic integration, and the development challenges confronting the ECOWAS region. Both leaders also explored ways to deepen cooperation and sustain integration efforts across West Africa.
The meeting was attended by the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Benin, H.E. Amadou Diongue, and highlighted Benin’s renewed determination to play an active role in advancing the goals of the sub-regional bloc.
