The Katsina State Government has confirmed that former Senior Special Assistant on Community Development, Nura Aliyu Garwa, who is under investigation over alleged involvement in a kidnapping syndicate, had been suspended before seeking election into the state assembly.
Garwa is among suspects recently paraded by the Katsina State Police Command over the alleged abduction of an eight-year-old boy in Sardauna Estate.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Salisu Zango, the government said Garwa was earlier suspended over allegations of diverting empowerment materials meant for communities in Batsari Local Government Area under the state’s Community Development Programme.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the allegations as unfortunate, especially given Garwa’s public profile and previous political ambitions.
Radda commended security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity and urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
The development follows recent police announcements on the arrest of suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of the young boy in Katsina metropolis.
