The Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) has opened two additional training annexes in Lagos to address the growing demand for driver education and training across the state.
The new centres are located at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat in Oshodi and at No. 5 Adele Road, off Warehouse Road, Apapa.
Speaking during a tour of the facilities, the General Manager of LASDRI, Afusat Tiamiyu, said the establishment of training schools in the Oshodi and Apapa areas was necessary due to the complex traffic conditions and high vehicular activities within the corridors.
She explained that motorists operating in the areas require structured and comprehensive training to master dense traffic situations, prevent accidents and comply with traffic regulations.
According to her, the institute is committed to equipping drivers with essential vehicle control skills, defensive driving techniques and a sound understanding of road safety laws.
Tiamiyu added that formal driving education would help motorists understand road signs, lane discipline and traffic regulations, thereby reducing the risk of vehicle impoundment and traffic violations.
She also noted that professional driver training enhances hazard perception and spatial awareness, especially for motorists navigating around articulated vehicles and other heavy-duty transport operations common in Apapa.
The LASDRI boss further described Oshodi and Apapa as major transport and commercial hubs characterised by heavy and complex traffic conditions, stressing that professional instructors are needed to train drivers on how to anticipate erratic road behaviour, safely navigate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes and manage interactions with commercial “Danfo” buses.
Also speaking, Director of Engineering at LASDRI, Munirudeen Bajulaiye, said each of the new facilities was designed to accommodate about 25 trainees per session, alongside administrative offices and convenience facilities.
The institute said the expansion forms part of efforts to improve access to professional driver training and enhance road safety standards across Lagos State.
