An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has ordered the remand of three men arrested in connection with the murder of a former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo of Court 3 granted an ex parte application filed by the Nigeria Police Force, ordering that the suspects be remanded for 60 days at the Oba Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Ogun State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The suspects, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, Sobu Obafunsho and Shakirudeen Ayoola, were brought before the court following investigations into the double homicide that occurred at Oyesiku’s residence in Agodo, Ogun State.
Police legal officer, A.S. Abiodun, told the court that the application, filed pursuant to Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Ogun State, 2017, was supported by a 24-paragraph affidavit deposed to by an officer attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), alongside 17 exhibits and a written address.
He urged the court to grant the application in the interest of justice.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Odubanjo granted the police application as prayed and adjourned the matter until September 10, 2026.
Speaking after the proceedings, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the remand would enable investigators conclude the case file while awaiting legal advice from the DPP before the suspects are arraigned before a court with the requisite jurisdiction.
He assured the public that the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, remained committed to ensuring justice for the victims.
The suspects were arrested following investigations into the killing of the retired broadcaster and her security guard, who were found dead in a pool of blood at Oyesiku’s residence in June.
Her Lexus RX330 SUV, initially reported missing after the attack, was later recovered through intelligence-led operations.
Police had earlier disclosed that the principal suspect, Philip, allegedly confessed to coordinating the attack over grievances stemming from his previous employment as Oyesiku’s security guard.
Investigators also alleged that he recruited the two other suspects to carry out the crime, during which the security guard was overpowered before the assailants gained access to the residence and allegedly murdered both victims.
