We Are Also Human’ — Nasboi Defends Celebrities’ Silence On Politics

Nigerian skit maker and singer Nasboi has appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking celebrities who choose to remain silent on political matters.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the entertainer asked the public to understand the risks public figures face when they speak out on national issues.

Nasboi noted the experience of fellow comedian, Mr Macaroni, who faced severe harassment and maltreatment after standing up for the masses, only to be mocked and insulted by the same citizens afterwards.

According to him, witnessing such treatment discourages other public figures from speaking up, and he adds that courage varies from person to person.

He stated that, just as many ordinary Nigerians have no interest in politics, several celebrities also prefer to stay completely away from politics. He reminded his followers that celebrities are human beings who get scared, too.

“People wey get sense, make we reason this matter. Una dey always drag celebrities for not speaking up, but make I remind una of Mr Macaroni. See how dem maltreat am just because he spoke up for everybody. Yet na still people mock am and insult am. You think say other celebrities no dey see all those things?

“No be everybody get mind to talk. You have to accept that. And make we no forget, just like some of una no dey interested in politics, na so some celebrities no like to involve politically. Celebrities are humans like you,” he stated
