2027: Ibogun Rallies Behind Iyabo Obasanjo, Pledges Massive Support For Ogun Central Senate Bid

Residents of Ibogun Community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State have thrown their weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogun Central, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The endorsement came during her familiarisation visit to Ward 11, where she received a warm welcome from traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, artisans, youth groups, women organisations, and representatives of the Fulani and Hausa communities.

More than 30 groups attended the gathering and openly declared their support for Obasanjo, describing her as the most suitable candidate to represent Ogun Central in the Senate.

Leading the traditional council, the Olubogun of Ibogun, Oba Timothy Sowunmi, described the former senator as a tested and dependable leader with a proven record in public service, assuring her of the community’s full backing.

Addressing residents, Obasanjo promised to make infrastructure development a top priority if elected, particularly the rehabilitation of the major road linking Ibogun to neighbouring communities.

She said efforts to facilitate the project would begin even before the election through her intervention, noting that improved roads would boost agriculture, ease transportation for farmers and traders, and stimulate economic activities in the area.

According to her, the PDP has a history of delivering critical infrastructure and remains committed to sustaining that legacy.

She also assured residents that her office would remain accessible and responsive to their needs.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of many communities here, but without good roads, our farmers cannot maximise the value of their hard work. My commitment is to ensure that these roads become motorable because development begins with accessibility.

“Representation is about impact, not occupying an office. My desire is to return to the Senate to ensure that our people enjoy the dividends of democracy through quality roads, better schools, improved healthcare and empowerment programmes.

“I believe leadership is about listening to the people. I will run an inclusive representation where every community has a voice and every constituency feels the presence of government,” she said.

Obasanjo further pledged to champion people-centred legislation that would attract more federal projects to Ogun Central while expanding empowerment programmes for women, youths and small business owners.

She said, “Our young people deserve opportunities, not promises. Together, we will create an environment where they can thrive through skills development, enterprise support and employment opportunities.”

Speaking on behalf of the community, Oba Sowunmi praised Obasanjo’s previous tenure in the Senate, describing her as a compassionate leader whose interventions touched many lives.

The monarch expressed disappointment with the current representation of the district, insisting that the community had resolved to support Obasanjo overwhelmingly in 2027.

“You have a track record as a former senator. Many people benefited from your representation, and countless families were lifted out of poverty through your interventions. That is why our people are excited about your return.

“Our current senator has fallen short of the expectations of the people. We hardly feel the impact of representation. What we seek is development, and we believe you possess the experience, capacity and commitment to deliver it. We assure you of massive votes from the Ibogun Community,” Oba Sowunmi declared.

Her tour continues later today with a meeting at the Awujale’s Palace in Ijebu Ode, and Arewa’s semi- private meeting at the Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta.
