2027: My Private Sector Experience Will Drive An Effective Representation For Ogun East, Says Omotayo Omoowo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 Ogun East Senatorial election, Alhaji Abdulhameed Oluwafemi Omotayo, popularly known as Omo Owo, has said his decision to seek elective office was driven by a desire to offer purposeful representation to the people of the district.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Omotayo described himself as a businessman, community servant and family man whose over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry have equipped him with the skills required to navigate governance and attract development to Ogun East.

According to him, politics is not a departure from his life’s work but a continuation of his commitment to service.

“I have never been a politician. I have spent my adult life building businesses, creating jobs and serving communities. Politics, for me, is simply another platform to build something that benefits people and outlives me,” he said.

The PDP standard-bearer noted that he was born and raised in Ijebuland, where values of hard work, accountability and communal progress shaped his outlook on life.

He explained that his understanding of federal systems and institutions, gained from years in the private sector, would be invaluable in representing Ogun East effectively at the National Assembly.

Omotayo also dismissed concerns about his relatively low political profile, insisting that leadership should not be reserved exclusively for career politicians.

“The question is not whether I am new to politics; it is whether Ogun East needs a different kind of leadership. Sometimes, the best leaders come from outside the system,” he stated.

He further revealed that his mother, Iyabo Odunmolorun Omotayo, once served as the South-West Woman Leader of the PDP, adding that his family had always been actively involved in community service and public engagement.

Highlighting the values that define his leadership style, Omotayo pledged to remain accessible to constituents if elected.

“A leader who cannot be reached has already failed. If you call me, I will answer. If you write to me, I will respond. That is the standard I intend to uphold,” he assured.

The Ogun East senatorial hopeful maintained that honesty, accountability and respect for the intelligence of the electorate would guide his actions in office.

He stressed that his ambition was not about personal advancement but about giving his people a stronger voice in national affairs.
