Abidikugu Calls For Political Tolerance, Peaceful Electioneering As 2027 Elections Approach

The African Democratic Congress, (ADC), House of Representatives Candidate for Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Dr Kazeem Adesina Abidikugu popularly known as KSO has admonished Nigerians to be political tolerance and imbibe the policy of politics without bitterness as 2027 election approaches.
Abidikugu in a statement on Friday said Democracy Day is a national public holiday in Nigeria to commemorate the restoration of democracy in 1999, commemorated on 12 June.
Until 2018, it was celebrated annually on May 29. It is a tradition that has been held annually, beginning in year 2000.
Abidikugu in a statement he personally signed to greets Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day, congratulated Nigerians for successfully enjoying democratic rule uninterrupted for 27 years.
Abidikugu, a Nigerian United Kingdom based psychiatric consultant said there is every reason to celebrate the longest years of Democratic rule in Nigeria.
He said though the country’s democracy is still far from reaching the desired standard but urges Nigerians to rejoice saying the worst democracy is better than a military rule.
Abidikugu, a philanthropist and the Agba-Akin Bobajiro of Ibadanland called on the politicians to eschew violence and ensure peaceful electioneering.
He said there should be political tolerance and urges Nigerians to imbibe the policy of politics without bitterness.
He also cautions those in positions of authority to avoid a winner takes all policy saying there is the need to embrace losers in elections and give them sense of belonging.
Abidikugu also admonished the Electoral Umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to do all within its power legally to ensure a free, fair and credible elections come 2027.
He said the frequent upturning of election results by the Judiciary should be avoided, saying INEC is constitutionally empowered to midwife a credible election.
“As we approach the 2027 general election, I appealed to the INEC to do all within its power to ensure a free, fair and credible elections. It should also provide a level playing ground for all parties and their candidates during the elections”.
