The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has obtained a court warrant to detain former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, for an initial 14 days.
Naijaonpoint reports that Nnaji was arrested on Wednesday over an alleged certificate forgery scandal.
The former minister was reportedly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after arriving from Enugu aboard a chartered flight.
The ICPC later confirmed the arrest in a statement by its spokesperson, John Odey.
“He was apprehended with the assistance of the State Security Services and subsequently handed over to the ICPC for further investigation,” Odey said.
“Following the arrest, Mr Nnaji has been taken into custody at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where investigations are expected to continue,” he added.
Odey said the arrest followed a Federal High Court order directing the ICPC to arrest Nnaji for investigation.
According to him, the commission sought the order after the former minister allegedly ignored several invitations for questioning.
“The commission assures the public that the matter will be pursued diligently in accordance with the law,” Odey said.
The ICPC said Nnaji was invited over allegations involving his University of Nigeria, Nsukka, degree certificate and National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate, which he reportedly submitted during his ministerial screening in 2023.
An official of the commission said the remand warrant would allow investigators to hold him for interrogation, with a possible extension.
