Adeleke’s Aide Urges PDP LG Officials To Prioritise Grassroots Devt, Support Gov Ahead Of Resumption

Senior Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Renewable Energy, Mr Funmiso Babarinde, has urged council officials elected under the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State to be good ambassadors and support the governor in moving the state forward ahead of their planned resumption.

NAIJAONPOINT reports that the PDP chairmen and councillors were elected on February 22, 2025. However, Governor Adeleke directed them not to resume at their various council areas to prevent a clash with officials elected under the All Progressives Congress at the twilight of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration.

Since the election, the PDP officials have stayed away from the secretariats, while those elected by the APC on October 15, 2022, continued to run the councils across the state. The development stalled grassroots governance for months.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, on Monday, sacked the APC executives and legislators.

Justice Adefunmilola A. Demi-Ajayi, in suit No. FHC/OS/CS/147/2025 dismissed the suit filed by the APC officials seeking tenure elongation and declared that their three-year tenure ended in October 2025.

Following the judgment, the PDP elected officials announced through their counsel, Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), on Thursday that they will resume at their various local government secretariats.

In a letter signed by Oluwabusola Oluwaniyi and addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI, they requested security to enable smooth resumption.

Reacting to the development, Babarinde, who also chairs Civil Society Matters, Imole Campaign Council, congratulated the PDP officials and described the judgment as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

He said the court decision has restored the mandate freely given by Osun voters during the February 22 election.

Babarinde commended Governor Adeleke for choosing the path of peace instead of violence while the APC officials occupied the councils.

He urged the incoming chairmen and councillors to prioritise grassroots development as they resume duties, stressing that their conduct will shape public perception of PDP and the Adeleke administration.

“Now that the coast is clear, our elected chairmen and councillors must be good ambassadors of PDP and support the Imole government. They should assist Mr Governor in moving Osun forward through people-oriented programmes at the grassroots,” he said.

The civil society leader expressed confidence that the officials will deliver dividends of democracy in health, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
