The coastal community of Ayamasa in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State was filled with mourners and well-wishers at the weekend as family members, government officials and community leaders gathered to bid farewell to Madam Adagba-ere Egberiwarebo, the late aunt of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Peter Akpe.
A statement issued by the Deputy Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Doubara Atasi, said serving and former government officials attended the funeral ceremony, including former Deputy Governor Peremobowei Ebebi, Head of Service Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer, lawmakers, commissioners and local government chairmen.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Akpe thanked God for the life and legacy of his late aunt, describing her as a kind-hearted woman whose 90 years of life positively impacted many people.
He also expressed appreciation to the dignitaries and guests who travelled from different parts of the country to attend the ceremony and prayed for them to enjoy long lives worthy of celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the Ayamasa community, Chief Thompson Amule, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said the gathering was a celebration of a life well lived rather than an occasion for mourning.
He described the deceased as a generous, loving and God-fearing woman whose acts of kindness would remain a lasting legacy in the community.
Madam Adagba-ere Egberiwarebo, who passed away in April at the age of 90, was a devout Christian and a leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ayamasa.
She is survived by three children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as two siblings, including the Deputy Governor’s father, His Royal Highness Agadabiri John Akpe, Amananaowei of Ebedebiri Federated Community.
The ceremony featured musical performances by Izonebi Alfred and gospel singer Youkere-ere.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Bubaraye Dakolo, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Abubakar Zubairu and Commissioner of Police Daniel Iyamah.
