Bandits have again attacked Dan Gulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, barely two days after a similar assault reportedly left 17 people dead.
Residents said the attackers stormed the village around 8:00am on Tuesday on motorcycles and opened fire, forcing villagers to flee for safety.
Community sources alleged that no fewer than 20 people were killed in the latest attack.
Several houses were also reportedly set ablaze, while many residents were still missing as of the time of filing this report.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers met people gathered under sheds before they began shooting.
“They came and started shooting at us. People ran in different directions to save their lives,” the source told Daily Trust.
On Sunday, bandits riding on more than 150 motorcycles reportedly attacked the same community, killing 17 people, including Sallah visitors.
The attackers were also said to have looted about 20 shops during the raid.
The repeated attacks have sparked fear among residents, who called on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene.
When contacted, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the command received a distress call from Tureta and immediately deployed personnel to the area.
He added that the command was awaiting a comprehensive report from officers on the ground.
