Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism and active participation in nation-building as the country marks Democracy Day. In a statement commemorating the occasion, the former Plateau State governor described Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey, achievements and future prospects.
Lalong said Nigeria has recorded steady progress in democratic governance since the return to civil rule in 1999, despite challenges such as economic pressures, security concerns and political differences. According to him, the resilience of Nigerians and the commitment of successive administrations to democratic principles have contributed to the growth of democratic institutions across the country.
The senator also expressed support for the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is aimed at promoting economic growth, stability and national development. He called on political leaders and stakeholders across party lines to place national interest above partisan considerations, stressing that democracy thrives when leaders work together for the common good and citizens remain engaged in the governance process.
Lalong thanked the people of Plateau South for their continued support and pledged to sustain efforts toward effective representation, development projects and policies that improve the welfare of constituents. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing quality leadership and service while advancing the interests of the district in the National Assembly.
