“He Should Not Seek Re-Election in 2027” – Ex-CAN President Backs Peter Obi, Says Tinubu Has Failed Nigerians

Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ayo Oritsejafor, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to seek a second term in office, arguing that his administration has failed to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Oritsejafor said the country is facing increasing hardship and appears to be moving in the wrong direction. According to him, the current administration has not provided the level of leadership required to effectively tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

The cleric maintained that if a government is unable to deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of citizens, it should allow more capable individuals to take over the leadership of the country. While he stopped short of calling for the president’s resignation, he urged Tinubu to honestly assess his performance and reconsider any plans to seek re-election in 2027.

Oritsejafor also expressed support for recent comments made by Peter Obi, who suggested that the president should consider stepping aside to make way for more competent leadership.

The former CAN president further questioned the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process, claiming that many citizens no longer believe their votes truly count. According to him, some election outcomes appear predetermined rather than reflecting the genuine will of voters.

He added that the church has a responsibility to continue speaking on national issues and holding public office holders accountable. Oritsejafor stated that if given the opportunity to meet President Tinubu personally, he would tell him directly that his administration has not performed satisfactorily and should either avoid seeking another term or support leaders capable of delivering meaningful transformation for Nigerians.
