“I Stand By My Claims” – Kenneth Okonkwo Defies Peter Obi, Refuses to Retract Explosive NDC Allegations

A fresh political dispute has emerged between former Labour Party allies, Kenneth Okonkwo and Peter Obi, following allegations surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticketing process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo has reportedly refused to retract comments he made during a recent television interview, despite receiving a pre-action notice from Peter Obi demanding a public apology, retraction, and ₦5 billion in damages over the claims.

The actor-turned-politician had alleged that some aspirants seeking NDC tickets for the 2027 elections were asked to make payments in order to secure party nominations.

Responding through his legal representatives at Supreme God Chambers, Okonkwo maintained that he would not withdraw his statements, insisting that the allegations were based on complaints brought to him by party aspirants and other sources.

According to the response, one of the individuals who reportedly provided information was Obunike Ohaegbu, an NDC House of Representatives aspirant from Anambra State.

The lawyers claimed that Ohaegbu approached Okonkwo seeking assistance in recovering ₦10 million he allegedly paid during the party’s nomination process. According to the account, the aspirant believed he had secured the ticket after making the payment but was later instructed to participate in direct primaries.

Okonkwo’s legal team further alleged that Ohaegbu blamed Obi for the development and encouraged him to publicize the issue.

“Our Client stands by the truth of all he declared on Channels TV.

“The whole idea of his speaking on Channels TV, which information he received from the aspirants, NDC, and other Nigerians, is to expose transactional politics, ticket racketeering, extortion of aspirants, misleading representations, false pretense, undue influence and coercive pressure.”

The dispute adds another chapter to the growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, as debates over party structures, transparency, and candidate selection processes continue to attract public attention.
