Lagos Metro Lions Club Constructs, Commissions Borehole Facility At Araromi Primary School, Lagos

Access to clean and safe drinking water remains one of the most fundamental needs for human health, dignity, and sustainable development. Unfortunately, many public primary schools in Nigeria continue to face challenges in accessing potable water, exposing pupils and staff to health risks associated with unsafe water sources.

In line with the humanitarian mission of Lions Clubs International to improve lives and serve communities, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, District 404B2, Nigeria, undertook the construction and installation of a borehole water dispensary facility for the pupils and staff of Araromi Primary School and Kiniun Ifa Primary School, Gbagada, Lagos.

The project was part of the legacy projects of the club for the 2025–2026 Lions Service Year, demonstrating the club’s commitment to impactful and sustainable community service.

The project began with a comprehensive community and environmental needs assessment conducted by members of Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club in collaboration with school administrators, teachers, and community representatives.

The assessment showed that the schools serve a large population of pupils from low- and middle-income households, making sustainable access to potable water essential for learning, health, and overall well-being.

After approval of the intervention, the club constituted a project committee, and the committee worked closely with engineers, water facility specialists, and contractors to design a robust water system that would deliver a safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply.

The borehole facility was designed as a modern water dispensary system featuring deep borehole drilling to reach clean underground aquifers, an industrial-grade submersible pumping system, high-capacity water storage tanks and multi-stage water filtration and purification system and reliable electrical and pumping infrastructure.

Upon successful completion, the facility was officially commissioned and handed over to the management of Araromi Primary School and Kiniun Ifa Primary School in the presence of Lions members, district leaders, school administrators, teachers, pupils, and community stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Club President Lion James Ayoor Daves expressed joy and gratitude at the successful completion of the legacy project. He noted that access to clean water is a basic human right and a critical requirement for the well-being and academic success of children.

“Today, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club is proud to leave behind a lasting legacy that will continue to serve generations of pupils. This project is not just about water; it is about health, dignity, hope, and creating a better future for our children,” he stated.

He appreciated club members, donors, partners, and all stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible, emphasising that collective service creates lasting impact.

Also speaking at the event, Club Charter President and Service Chairperson, Lion Franklin Ugochukwu Udah, highlighted the journey from identifying the need to delivering a sustainable solution.

He explained that the project was inspired by the club’s commitment to meaningful service and strategic community intervention.

“When we conducted our needs assessment, we discovered a serious gap in access to potable water for these pupils. As Lions, we could not ignore such a critical need. This borehole facility is our response—a practical and sustainable intervention designed to improve lives.”

He further stressed that service must go beyond temporary relief to long-term transformation.

“Legacy projects should outlive us. Our goal was to create something impactful, sustainable, and beneficial not only to the schools but to the wider community. This is service in action.”

He encouraged the school authorities and community members to take ownership of the facility and ensure proper maintenance.

In her goodwill message, District Governor Lion Kemi Eribake commended the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for executing a highly impactful legacy project aligned with the global service mission of Lions Clubs International.

She praised the club for demonstrating visionary leadership and dedication to humanitarian service.

“This project exemplifies the true spirit of Lionism -identifying needs within our communities and responding with sustainable solutions. Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club has set a commendable standard for service excellence,” she stated.

She further encouraged Lions across District 404B2 to continue initiating projects that create measurable and lasting community impact.

She reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting service initiatives that improve health, education, and quality of life.
