Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to serve as ambassadors of unity, hope, and positive change.The governor made the call during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, Oborevwori encouraged corps members to embrace the opportunity to interact with people from different cultural and social backgrounds and build relationships that strengthen national unity.
According to the governor, the Delta State Government recognises the vital role of the NYSC scheme in nation-building and grassroots development. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the welfare of corps members and improving facilities at the orientation camp. “As young Nigerians, you are serving at a time when our nation requires innovation, resilience, and a renewed commitment to progress,” he said.
Oborevwori also urged participants to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a pathway to self-reliance and future success. Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, disclosed that 2,000 prospective corps members had been successfully registered and fully kitted at the close of registration. The figure comprises 810 males and 1,190 females.
Kwaghe encouraged the corps members to view their deployment to Delta State as an opportunity to contribute to the state’s socio-economic development while benefiting from government youth-focused programmes. He also commended Governor Oborevwori for his continued support for the NYSC scheme and corps members’ welfare.
