Six farmers were killed in an attack by armed assailants in Kuyello District of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, according to the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU).
In a statement issued by its chairman, Dr. Isah Muhammad, BEPU said the farmers were attacked while working on farmland in Kujijiro on June 22, 2026.The group condemned the killings and called on the Federal Government and Kaduna State Government to strengthen security operations in the area to protect residents and farming communities.
According to BEPU, the incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Kuyello and other communities in eastern Birnin Gwari despite efforts aimed at restoring peace.The union warned that persistent attacks on farmers could affect agricultural activities and food production if residents become reluctant to return to their farms. “If urgent action is not taken, many farmers may be discouraged from cultivating their lands this season, with possible consequences for food production and livelihoods,” the statement said.
BEPU urged the Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify operations in Kuyello and surrounding communities.The group also called on the Kaduna State Government to enhance support for security efforts and the protection of lives and property. BEPU expressed condolences to the families of the victims and encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing relevant information that could assist ongoing operations.
