The Executive Chairperson of Karim Lamido Local Government Area in Taraba State, Virginia Baba Bambur, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Karim town, Didango, and several other affected communities following an escalation of violence and security disturbances in the area. The measure is aimed at restoring peace and maintaining law and order amid the growing unrest.
In a statement released by the Chairperson, the curfew came into effect on Thursday, June 4, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.
The council explained that the measure was prompted by a deteriorating security situation in the area, characterized by persistent attacks, fatalities, and extensive damage to property across the affected communities.
Bambur directed all security agencies operating within the local government area, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to enforce the directive and ensure strict compliance.
She assured residents that the government would conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the crisis and bring those responsible to justice.
The Chairperson also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that efforts are underway to restore peace, security, and normalcy in the affected areas.
Authorities have urged members of the public to adhere strictly to the curfew regulations as security operations continue.
