The Taraba State Government has sealed a lithium mining site in Gidan Angulu, Bali Local Government Area, over alleged environmental violations and degradation. The enforcement action was carried out by the State Mobile Court on Environmental Protection and Public Safety, which said the operation was conducted under Executive Order No. 5 of 2023 and other applicable environmental regulations.

Following an inspection, members of the Mobile Court described the environmental impact of activities at the site as severe and said the closure was aimed at preventing further damage while promoting compliance with environmental laws. The court said illegal and unregulated mining poses risks to public safety, biodiversity, farmland, and water resources, adding that enforcement remains essential to sustainable resource management.

During the exercise, officials also met with traditional rulers in Gidan Angulu to formally communicate the court’s order and encourage community support for efforts to curb illegal mining. The Taraba State Government said it remains committed to enforcing environmental regulations, addressing illegal mining, and promoting the sustainable development of the state’s mineral resources.
