The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has publicly destroyed 12,233.946 kilograms of illicit drugs and psychotropic substances seized during operations across Kano State and at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The exercise, led by the Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, forms part of the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign and followed court forfeiture orders for the confiscated drugs.
According to the NDLEA, the destroyed exhibits included cannabis, codeine, tramadol, pentazocine, diazepam, pregabalin, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, herbal mixtures and other controlled substances. The agency said the seizures resulted from intelligence-led operations, targeted raids and enforcement exercises, including Operations Sharar Mafaka and Ramadan Mubarak.
The command also disclosed that since January 2026, it has arrested 904 suspects, comprising 869 men and 35 women, and secured more than 54 convictions in drug-related cases.
Representing NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), Director of Operations and General Investigations, DCGN Ahmad Sulaiman Ningi, said the public destruction demonstrated the agency’s commitment to removing illicit drugs from circulation and disrupting trafficking networks.The Kano State Government, represented at the event, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting anti-drug enforcement through rehabilitation programmes, intelligence sharing and youth-focused initiatives aimed at reducing drug abuse across the state.
