Veteran politician Chief Fyneman Wilson has defected from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, alongside a large number of supporters.
Wilson, a former member of the old Rivers State House of Assembly and former political adviser to Senator Seriake Dickson, announced his resignation from the NDC on Friday. He attributed his decision to what he described as a lack of internal democracy within the party.
According to Wilson, the decision was influenced by the outcome of the NDC primary election for a Bayelsa State House of Assembly seat, in which he alleged that his son, Felix Wilson, initially won before the result was reversed in favour of another candidate. The allegation has not been independently verified. “The NDC is a one-man show and it is heading nowhere,” Wilson said.Other defectors, including Felix Wilson, Hon. Victor Egba and Mrs. Egbuson Clement, also criticised the NDC and pledged to support the APC in the 2027 general elections.
Bayelsa Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, who represented Governor Douye Diri at the reception in Yenagoa, welcomed the defectors into the APC and said the party remained committed to internal democracy and inclusiveness. Former Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi and other APC leaders said the development would strengthen the party’s political base in Sagbama and Bayelsa West.
