Stakeholders from Taraba State’s Southern Senatorial Zone have concluded a zonal security consultative summit in Wukari, calling for stronger community participation in addressing insecurity across the state.
The summit, themed “Listening to the Communities, Securing the Homeland: Building Taraba’s Security Solutions from the Grassroots,” brought together government officials, traditional rulers, security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to improving security.
Chairman of the summit and Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, said the consultations were designed to gather community input that would inform sustainable security policies. He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information, describing security as a shared responsibility. Bonzena said the consultations held across the state’s three senatorial zones would contribute to deliberations at the Taraba State Security Summit scheduled for next month.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Agbu Kefas, Secretary to the State Government and Alternate Chairman of the State Security Committee, Chief Kataps Ngwii, said recommendations from the consultations had been documented and would be considered in developing the state’s security strategy. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property through inclusive, community-based security initiatives.
