Stakeholders from Taraba State’s Northern Zone have called for stronger community participation in addressing insecurity during a Security Consultative Summit held in Jalingo. The summit, themed “Listening to the Communities, Securing the Homeland: Building Taraba’s Security Solutions from the Grassroots,” brought together government officials, security agencies, traditional rulers and civil society representatives to discuss strategies for improving peace and public safety.
Chairman of the Northern Zonal Security Summit and Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, said the initiative was designed to give residents an opportunity to identify security concerns and contribute recommendations for government action. He stressed that many security challenges stem from unresolved disputes and urged communities to support security agencies with timely and credible information.Bonzena said the consultation forms part of preparations for the Taraba State Security Conference scheduled for next month.
Jalingo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Nura Dantsoho, described insecurity as a major challenge confronting Northern Nigeria and commended Governor Agbu Kefas for promoting community engagement in security initiatives. Recommendations from the summit are expected to guide discussions at the forthcoming Taraba State Security Conference and support efforts to strengthen peace and security across the state.
