The National Universities Commission (NUC) has formally recognised the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action (TSU-TASCA), Gembu, as a state-owned university.

The recognition was announced during a ceremony at the NUC headquarters, where the commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the institution in line with national academic standards. Governor Agbu Kefas described the university as a strategic investment aimed at advancing education, scientific research, climate resilience and agricultural innovation.

According to the governor, the institution is expected to produce skilled professionals capable of addressing challenges in food security, climate change and sustainable development.

The NUC said it would work closely with the university to ensure compliance with quality assurance and regulatory requirements. The state government said the university will expand access to higher education while promoting research, innovation and human capital development to support Taraba’s long-term development goals.
