Residents of Manomawa community in Ingawa Local Government Area of Katsina State have appealed to the state government to urgently reconstruct a collapsed bridge that has cut off the community during the rainy season for more than a year.
A resident, Adamu Abdulhamid, said the bridge has become a major danger to residents, particularly those requiring emergency medical attention, as it becomes impassable whenever heavy rainfall causes flooding.
According to him, the collapsed bridge disconnects the community from neighbouring areas, making movement difficult and exposing residents to serious hardship.
He recalled a tragic incident in which a sick resident lost his life after relatives were unable to cross the flooded section of the road to reach a hospital.
“We tried to take him to the hospital, but we could not cross because the water had covered the road. By the following day, it was his body that we buried,” Abdulhamid said.
He explained that the road serves as an important link between Kano State and Ingawa Local Government Area, stressing that its poor condition is affecting transportation, economic activities and access to essential services.
Abdulhamid said community leaders had repeatedly reported the matter to the chairman of Ingawa Local Government and other relevant government officials, but no lasting solution had been provided.
“The chairman only sent officials to inspect and measure the area, but since then nothing has been done,” he alleged.
He appealed to the Katsina State Government, as well as well-meaning individuals and humanitarian organisations, to intervene urgently by repairing the bridge before the rains worsen the situation.
The residents warned that unless immediate action is taken, more lives could be at risk as the rainy season continues.
Effort to get response from the chairman Ingawa LGA failed he couldn’t respond to the message sent to him as at the time of filing this report.
