The Khamzid Charity Foundation has launched a massive economic empowerment programme to train 100,000 women and youths across Northern Nigeria in vocational skills to combat poverty and foster self-reliance.
The initiative, tagged the Tijjaniyya Youth Economic Development Initiative (TYEDI), was officially inaugurated at the Dark Real Event Centre in Bauchi, where officials and 20 local government coordinators were sworn in. Out of the 100,000 targeted nationwide beneficiaries, 20,000 will be selected from Bauchi State.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chairman of the Foundation, Khalil Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, described the initiative as a long-overdue awakening for a community already rich in spiritual heritage.
“We are a people rich in faith, discipline, and numbers, yet for too long we have been left behind in worldly affairs.TYEDI exists to close that gap: to match our wealth of faith with a wealth of capability. A believer whose hand is productive is a believer whose faith is shielded from need.” Dahiru said.
He urged the youth to reject idleness and view the programme as a duty rather than charity, advising beneficiaries to lift others as they progress.
“The participants will be drawn from the vast network of Tijjaniyya and Tsangaya youth disciples of the revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi” he added.
According to the Foundation’s Programme Coordinator, Muhammad Abubakar Dahir, TYEDI aims to achieve two concurrent goals: equip 100,000 youths with market-ready trades and build an organised civic network of one million members.
He stated that beneficiaries will undergo rigorous training across 22 market-relevant sectors, including Modern farming and animal husbandry , digital skills, and printing, Tailoring, shoe-making, and bag-making, trading, and financial literacy.
According to him, to ensure long-term success, the foundation will provide participants with start-up kits, business support tools, financial grants, and continuous mentorship.
Coordinator Dahir explained that Bauchi State was selected to host the pilot phase because it serves as the spiritual and structural headquarters of the community, adding that success in Bauchi will form the blueprint as the programme expands across Nigeria’s three northern geopolitical zones: the North-East, North-West, and North-Central.
He stated that to prevent fraud, the foundation has implemented a disciplined verification process, pointing out that participants will be registered and tracked down to their specific ward and polling unit, ensuring that resources reach real, verifiable individuals.
He called on all levels of government, philanthropists, and international development partners to support the initiative, describing the region’s massive youth population as its greatest untapped asset.
“A generation that is skilled and organised is a generation that builds, not one that waits, and not one that can be misled.What we are raising here is a firewall against idleness and a foundation for prosperity. It is a gift not to one community alone, but to the peace and progress of the entire nation” he said.
