The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army Division in Jalingo, Taraba State, to strengthen security operations in Taraba, Adamawa and the wider North-East region.
The new formation is expected to enhance military command and control, improve rapid response to security threats and support coordinated operations against banditry, kidnapping, communal conflicts and other forms of criminality.
The Division’s headquarters in Jalingo is also expected to improve intelligence gathering, surveillance and collaboration among security agencies operating in the region.The development has been welcomed by residents and stakeholders, who believe a stronger military presence could contribute to improved security and create a more conducive environment for economic activities.
Taraba and Adamawa share strategic importance because of their extensive land areas, proximity to other North-Eastern states and international border with Cameroon.The establishment of the Division is also expected to support agricultural activities, facilitate the return of displaced persons and improve the security of communities and critical infrastructure.
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has consistently emphasised the importance of security to sustainable development and maintained collaboration with federal security agencies as a priority of his administration. The new military formation is expected to position Jalingo as a key operational base for the Nigerian Army in the North-East and strengthen efforts to promote stability and peace across the region.
