“Husband Is Not My Breakthrough” — Lady Tells Mother to Stop Praying for Her to Get Married

A young Nigerian woman has sparked widespread debate on social media after revealing that she asked her mother to stop praying for her to find a husband and instead focus on praying for her financial breakthrough.
In a viral video, the lady argued that marriage should not be viewed as every woman’s greatest achievement, insisting that her current priority is building financial stability and achieving personal success.
According to her, she recently had a conversation with her mother, asking her to remove “a good husband” from her list of prayer requests.
“I just told my mum today that if she’s praying for me, she should not be adding husband as one of the things I need from God,” she said.
Questioning the common belief that marriage is a major life breakthrough, she added:
“How can you be asking God for breakthrough and at the same time saying God should give me a good husband? Husband is not breakthrough.”
The lady recalled that while she was living in Lagos, her mother frequently asked whether she had found a man who would eventually marry her.
“She kept asking me, ‘Who is the person you’re with? Is he not coming to pay your bride price?’” she said.
She jokingly explained that she later travelled to her village, hoping her mother might succeed where she had not.
“I thought, okay, I didn’t find a husband in Lagos. Now I’m in the village. Can you help me find one?” she said.
However, after spending three days there, she humorously noted that her mother had still not found a suitable husband for her.
“I’ve been here for about three days now. My mother has not been able to find any man for me. So what I cannot get for myself, you cannot get for me,” she joked.
The woman stressed that her biggest prayer at this stage of her life is financial success rather than marriage.
“Please, husband is not one of my breakthrough prayers. That’s not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for money,” she said.
She added that she would only consider marriage if she met a partner who genuinely supported her without later using his financial assistance against her.
“If the husband is coming with everything I need, okay, no problem. But if he’s not coming with everything I need and I’ll still have to struggle, then I’m not interested,” she said.
She concluded by appealing to her mother and others to prioritize praying for her success and prosperity rather than focusing on marriage.
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that financial independence should come before marriage, while others argued that both can be important life goals depending on an individual’s values and priorities.
