In other news… Nigerian music star Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has spoken candidly about one of the most difficult periods of his career, revealing how a serious vocal cord condition caused by acid reflux affected both his health and passion for music.

The singer, who enjoyed massive success between 2018 and 2021, was forced to step away from the spotlight after suffering severe damage to his vocal cords. The condition prevented him from singing and led to a lengthy break from making music, slowing the momentum of his flourishing career.

Speaking during a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Tekno recalled the emotional toll the illness took on him. He explained that many people around him misunderstood what he was going through, believing he had simply become lazy because he was no longer recording or performing as often.

According to the singer, he chose to keep his health struggles private at the time, even from some of the people closest to him, including members of his team. As a result, they were unaware of the severity of his condition and assumed he had lost interest in his career.

Reflecting on that difficult chapter, Tekno said:

“Even the people closest to me were saying that ‘he is just lazy. He doesn’t want to perform..’. I was in a very dark place. Even after I recovered, I hated music. I didn’t want to hear music for a long time. I was only forcing myself to do music because I had a deal with Universal.”
