AWKA – The Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has further intensified its war against illicit drug trafficking and consumption in the state.
The bold step taken by the federal agency against substance abuse was the sustained collaboration with the Nigeria Army established during the courtesy cum familiarization visit of the newly posted Commanding Officer of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment Onitsha, Lt. Col Joseph Awudu Enyia to the NDLEA state headquarters Awka.
Lieutenant Colonel Enyia, who assumed command of the 14 Field Engineer Regiment on 13th July 2026, was accompanied on the visit by some senior officers of the Regiment.
According to a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, ASN Nwosu Chukwuemeka Raphael, the visit was aimed at fostering a seamless and cordial working relationship between the Nigerian Army and the NDLEA as well as familiarising the new Commanding Officer with key security stakeholders in Anambra State.
During the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Enyia emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration among security agencies in addressing emerging security challenges.
He noted that the familiarisation tour was designed to strengthen existing partnerships and provide an avenue to deliberate on issues of common interest towards enhancing peace, security, and public safety across the State.
In his response, the Anambra State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Onubogu Charles Orakwue, warmly welcomed the Commanding Officer and his entourage, congratulating Lieutenant Colonel Enyia on his recent appointment.
Onubogu therefore reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining the existing cordial relationship with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, stressing that effective collaboration remains indispensable in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other crimes.
The Anambra NDLEA Commander further assured the Commanding Officer of the agency’s readiness to sustain intelligence sharing, joint operations, and other collaborative initiatives geared towards ensuring a safer and drug-free Anambra State.
