The Ogun State chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has dismissed claims by a rival group seeking to take over the leadership of the association, insisting that the current state executive remains the only legitimate leadership recognised under the organisation’s constitution.
The association described recent reports and activities by the rival group as misleading and capable of causing confusion among farmers and stakeholders in the state.
In a statement issued by the state leadership, AFAN maintained that its executive committee emerged through a duly constituted electoral process and continues to enjoy the recognition of the national leadership of the association.
The association urged members to disregard what it described as attempts by unauthorised individuals to create a parallel leadership structure, stressing that such actions violate the constitution of the organisation.
AFAN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the welfare of farmers, supporting agricultural development and working with the Ogun State Government and relevant stakeholders to improve food production and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
The association also called on security agencies and relevant authorities to prevent any actions capable of disrupting its activities, while urging members across the state to remain united and continue supporting the recognised leadership.
