Oteri-Ughelli Downpour Submerged Residents, Blame Woes On Contractor

Two hours of continued heavy downpour have Submerged Buildings and streets connecting the newly constructed Pius Labo extension road at Oteri-Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State.

Flood-ravaged landlords and residents launched a scathing attack on the contractor of the road project, whom they accused of not taking cognizance of their buildings before embarking on the construction work.

Most of the affected residents said the road project that was supposed to bring joy to the inhabitants is now a curse and a nightmare to them.

A resident in one of the adjoining streets to the newly constructed Pius Labo extension road, Mr Philip Cojo, lamented that their woes will continue as the downpour increases. He said , the current problem faced by residents can only be addressed by direct State government intervention.

“We that are living in the adjoining streets were not put into the planning phase and in the execution process. How would you raise a road project without planning adequately, like providing drains, for the flow of water from the streets and close to the main drainage?

Also, residents from the main Pius Labo Street living close to the sand beach are equally not finding it easy, as the elevation in the newly constructed Pius Labo Road extension above theirs has made the flow of drain almost impossible .

As of the time of filling in this report, many residents were seen scooping water from their homes, and some were trying to save vital materials from getting destroyed by the flooding.
