Tension is mounting in Oyo State following a formal petition submitted by Fulani residents of Igboho Kingdom to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Alaafin of Oyo, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, over the activities of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
In the petition, the Fulani community challenged what they described as persistent threats of eviction, insisting that no individual or group possesses the legal authority to forcefully remove them from Igboho or any part of the state.
The petitioners maintained that their presence in the area is lawful and protected under the Nigerian Constitution, stressing that any attempt to displace them outside due process would amount to a violation of their fundamental human rights.
They further called on Governor Makinde to intervene decisively by cautioning Sunday Igboho against actions capable of inciting unrest, urging the state government to uphold law and order.
The development has raised fresh concerns over ethnic tensions in the region, with stakeholders warning that the situation, if not carefully managed, could escalate into a broader security challenge.
Efforts to reach representatives of Sunday Igboho for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
