Three Injured As Brake Failure Triggers Multi-Vehicle Crash In Lagos, LASTMA Rescues Victims

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three persons trapped in a multiple-vehicle collision along the LASU-Isheri Road at Iyana School, inward Igando, following a crash allegedly caused by brake failure on a heavy-duty truck.

According to LASTMA, the accident involved a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna, and two commercial tricycles. Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck suffered a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the other vehicles.

LASTMA officials, who were on routine patrol in the area, swiftly activated the agency’s emergency response protocol, rescuing trapped victims, preventing secondary accidents and managing traffic around the scene.

The agency said it worked with officers of the Iba Police Division to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the accident scene, restoring the free flow of traffic along the busy corridor.

Three occupants—one man and two women—sustained varying degrees of severe fractures in the crash. They were rescued from the wreckage by LASTMA personnel and other emergency responders before being taken to El-Shaddai Hospital for specialised medical treatment.

The vehicles involved in the collision included a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.

LASTMA officers remained at the scene throughout the rescue operation, directing traffic and ensuring the safe movement of motorists until normal vehicular flow was fully restored.

Commending the professionalism and swift response of the agency’s emergency personnel, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to carry out thorough mechanical inspections before embarking on journeys.

He stressed that special attention should be paid to the condition and efficiency of braking systems, noting that routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components remains essential to reducing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.

Bakare-Oki also advised motorists to obey traffic regulations, exercise caution on the roads, and promptly report traffic emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free emergency short code, 3367, to enable rapid intervention by the agency’s emergency response teams.
